Basic Chicory Coffee
Elemental Chicory Coffee is an excellent recipe for people who like coffee but have gut/digestive issues. Chicory contains the prebiotic, inulin, that is used by the microorganisms in the gastrointestinal tract to influence health positively and can ease constipation. Inulin supports weight loss, a reduction in inflammatory bowel disease, and the inflammation associated with Crohn’s disease. Slowly increasing consumption of chicory coffee from one cup to two cups per day helps the digestive system adjust and lessens any potential abdominal discomfort.
1 Tbs. Roasted and ground chicory root (when purchasing be sure to buy roasted and ground chicory root)
2 C. filtered water
Put water in a small sauce pan and bring to a simmer.
As the water is heating add the chicory.
When the water comes to a boil turn it off and steep for 5 minutes
